Hi Michael, I am a former Grandville Baptister! I am older than you but know your Mom and Dad. In fact, I sat a couple rows behind them a couple of Sundays ago when visiting my Mom. I have struggled with the Baptist Church for many years and do not attend any fundamental or evangelical church anymore because I just can't. It's very much a part of me but I can't reconcile the politics and treatment of the LGBTQ community. My experience was in no way the same as yours, but I understand and want you to know I hear you. Tell your story. It is important and while I still consider myself a believer I do not believe the same as I was taught in my youth and I believe God wouldn't either.

I have always hoped you would write a book...maybe the first of many. Good to hear it was such a powerful experience (for you and the group at the presentation). Thanks for sharing about the experience.

I adore you, cousin. And I’m so proud to be your family. You know how I feel about your book and how much I want to read it. Kickstarter? Submitting to an agent/publisher who might help with the funding? I don’t know. I just know your words and photographs make beautiful art this world needs.

Thank you, cousin! I hadn’t thought about the Kickstarter route; great suggestion that gives me something to think about. Grazie!

What a fantastic journey you went on to create your book and receive your MA! Congrats. And thank you so much for sharing the emotional/very human effects it had. Such reflection is incredibly valuable as you move forward. I'm proud of you!

I’m so deeply proud of you, my friend. And I love that you had that cathartic experience while presenting your work. I’m sure at the end you were wrung out and sky high. I’m in the midst of reading your work now that B has finished, and I look forward to talking with you about it soon. The journey of writing about our mutually fucked up fundamentalist pasts is not for the faint of heart, but still so very worth it. Love you. ❤️

Fantastic synopsis of “where you have been” and the project sounds fantastic. Looking forward to reading about the coming next iteration of “the new you.”
