Mike, thank you for this script. This is what a lot of us need to just get over the resistance to communicate with our representatives. We’re not exactly sure what to say.
Thank you for the information about how to call congresscritters, and much respect for the outrage.
I am not surprised by the lack of public protests. As you know, most Americans have little sense of connection with what happens outside their own private worlds. And it’s not just Americans, of course. From what I’ve seen, it’s the default setting for humans in general.
That’s why I appreciate your voice. Between the financial cuts to health and science programs and the insults to what’s vaguely called wokeness, it’s hard not to feel exhausted and demoralized. (That’s the point of it, after all.)
Your words and your example, however, are powerful. Performative protests, demonstrations etc. are exhilarating, but do not underestimate the influence of quiet conversations and small gestures of kindness and decency. Your dissent makes a difference.
This is a really good and informative post Michael! I'm not American, but if I was, I would absolutely be calling my representatives. I hope it moves the needle 🙏
Bravo Michael. Thank you for using your platform to get the word out. Everyone one of us should be calling our MOCs in outrage and hold their feet to the fire. Keep up the great work! Kelly
